20/09/2017 More wood cutting and only a few garden shots.

Maximum temperature 20C,  minimum 8C.  7 km/h SE wind with 17 km/h gusts. Dry and quite pleasant :-)
An unusual positional shot of a Red admiral (Vanessa atalanta)

As above.

This common wall lizard does not look comfy but it seemed quite happy posing on the edge of the compost bins

The Peacock butterfly looks so dull with closed wings...

Here is is again being bombed by a bee...

After about the sixth bombing the butterfly gave up and moved....

here to give me a beautiful shot. (Aglais io)

There are fairies and elves living in our garden.

Le gendarme beetle on the lavender (Pyrrhocoris apterus).

Rose bud.

Pumpkin.

Sweet potatoes, carrots (yellow and orange) and tomatoes.  The largest sweet potato weighed in at 1.11 kg (2.3 lbs)!!

  2. I'm envious of those beautiful veggies. We've tried many times with a small garden on our apartment balcony but we can't seem to even keep herbs alive. I think the lizard above looks as though it's about to jump on some prey. It's poised for attack. ;-)

    1. I would be lost without my garden. I have never lived in a town so it would be totally alien to me. Herbs can also be temperamental, I have never been able to grow decent basil! I miss the lizards in winter but it is something to look forward to in spring. Take care Diane

  9. That's an absolutely wonderful set of images, Diane! It doesn't look to me as if you need a new lens of any sort - you're getting fabulous results with what you have already got (equipment and artisitic talent)!

With my very best wishes - - - Richard

    1. Thanks Richard for your VERY kind words. When I look at Noushka's photos I realise how far behind I am, but I also do not have her equipment. On the other hand I would not know how to use it either!!!!! Her skills are just superb as are yours.
Hope that you have a good and an interesting weekend Diane

  10. Goodness the peacock butterfly is spectacular when its wings are open! That would have made quite a pot of soup that sweet potato Diane ☺

    1. I agree the peacock is spectacular but you would not look at it twice with closed wings! I have not decided what to do with the giant potato yet :-) Keep well Diane

  12. Great time of the year for fresh veggies. We have experimented with vegetable gardens but tend these days to patronize the local farmers' market, where there is local abundance and reasonable prices.

    1. We love our garden veggies and we know that there has been no interference in their growth or serious pesticides used. The local market is not cheap!! Diane
